    2025 Inhouse Tournament

On Friday 23 May we ran a mini tournament at the dojo. Our Inhouse Tournaments are designed for beginners to develop confidence and experience in a tournament situation in an environment they are comfortable with and with lots of support on hand.

The Inhouse Tournament also provides a wonderful opportunity for our Brown and Black Belts to develop confidence in judging kata and kumite. For many of the brown belts it was their first time as judges and it was fantastic to see how well they all did.

Our competitors ranged from 4 to 13 years of age and all showed great determination and spirit to give their best. There were many impressive performances across the board and Adam Sensei was pleased with the standard that all demonstrated.

Some competitors went home with medals, some did not, but all went home with a great sense of accomplishment and a growing confidence as a result of putting themselves out there.

Our next tournament is the Gold Coast Cup and all participants from our Inhouse Tournament should be looking to continue to grow their confidence and performances by participating in this event.

Entry for the 2025 Gold Coast Cup can be made here: – https://fitofan.com/2025-gold-coast-cup

  • 2023 QLD Chito-Ryu Karate Annual Camp

2023 QLD Chito-Ryu Karate Annual Camp

Keen karate students from Gold Coast Chito-Ryu Karate and Sunshine Coast Karate joined together for a weekend of intense karate training on the Gold Coast.  Training was led by Martin Phillips Shihan with the assistance of Sandra Phillips Shihan and Adam Higgins Shihan.

With a large range in ages of the participants ranging from 8 years old to 60+ it was great to see everyone working well together all with the same purpose of self-improvement and of course some karate fun!  The training session covered everything from kihon, kata, kumite, kobujyutsu, bunkai and plenty of physical work as well.  The highlight for many was Sunday morning beach training with a beautiful sunrise to great the day.

The 2024 QLD Chito-Ryu Karate Camp will be held on the Sunshine Coast and we look forward to another great weekend of training.

  • ‘Go Pink for Taj’ Day

    ‘Go Pink for Taj’ Day

    ‘Go pink for Taj’ Day!

Taj Pike, a beloved member of our karate family, started training when he was 4 Now 16, Taj is undergoing treatment for stage 3 lymphoblastic lymphoma, which is a type of cancer that affects the lymph nodes. Anyone who has trained with or knows Taj has been touched by his sense of humour, his energy, and his kindness.

Taj is an amazing leader in our dojo, supporting students both younger and older than him with his trademark blend of fun, high spirits, and gentleness. He’s also a volunteer with his local Scouts organisation, and recently walked 96km at the Kokoda Challenge, raising money for charity.

As he undergoes chemotherapy for his cancer, Taj is likely to lose his hair; a feature he’s very proud of. So, for fun, he cut his hair into a mohawk and dyed it pink.

Taj spends so much of his time supporting others. Now it’s our turn to support Taj.

    Go pink for Taj!

We’re going pink for Taj on Wednesday 22 September.

We’re asking everyone to turn their hair pink and bring a small donation to this special class. Everyone is invited, regardless of which day you normally train. Let’s fill up the dojo!

Some of our seniors (and teenagers) are dyeing their hair pink. For anyone who can’t dye their hair, we’ll have cans of pink hairspray at the ready. Don’t worry; it washes out!

    Also welcome:

    • Pink nail polish on fingers and/or toes
    • Pink bandanas
    • Pink t-shirts under your gi
    • Pink Gi 😊
    • Anything else pink you can think of!

And it’s not just students who are welcome to participate in our Go pink for Taj! day. Parents, friends, spectators, visitors – we’d love everyone to get into the pink spirit so we can turn the dojo pink for a day to celebrate and support Taj.

You can also support Taj and his family at the following Go Fund Me page:

  • 2021 GC Karate Competition

    2021 GC Karate Competition

Such a great fun day.  Our first tournament for nearly 2 years was restricted to just members of the Gold Coast dojo which meant that we had lots of first timers (& a few rusty old timers), participation numbers very well above what we expected which was great to see.  The standard of competition was very strong with lots of very close matches across all divisions. With some more experience under their belts there will be some very high level competitors representing the Gold Coast dojo in the future.

Tournaments are all about challenging yourself and overcoming your fears and this was the most please part of the day as we saw many karateka put aside their nerves to perform very strongly.  Well done to everyone who stepped up to the challenge.

A massive thanks also to our three fantastic referee’s who judged every event with hardly a break. Sensei Monica, Sensei Sam and Sensei Kazumi Thank you very much 🙂

And also a big thank you to Levi Lenton who did an awesome job marshaling so we could keep everything running smoothly.

And finally thank you to all the parents and supporters for your patience and understanding in having to watch the events from outside the dojo to comply with our Covid number restrictions.
