22/23-10-2011: Soke Sensei Visits the Gold Coast Karate Dojo

Supreme Instructor of Chito-Ryu Karate-Do spent 2 days at the Gold Coast Karate and Kobudo Center providing expert instruction and guidance to it's Chito-Ryu Karate members.

The Saturday session was devoted to the Brown and Black Belts with members of Sunshine Coast Karate making the trip down to take advantage of the opportunity. The primary focus of the training was on seichusen and a variety of exercises were conducted to highlight and develop this important concept.

On Sunday the sessions were split up for the various age groups with the Little Champions up first. All the Little Champions did themself proud demonstrating excellant ettiquette, focus and manners along with their karate skills. The Juniors were the next group up and they spent a lot of time working on their kicks and developing speed. The final group for the day was the seniors with students ranging from 2nd lesson white belts right through to the black belts. The focus of this class was on stepping with posture and seichusen again very important.

As always it was a pleasure to host Soke Sensei at the Gold Coast dojo and we all look forward to the next opportunity to train with him.

For those keen to experience more training with Soke Sensei in his home dojo in Kumamoto in Japan, Sensei Martin will again be taking a tour group over next year.

9-10-2011: QLD Tournament Circuit Round 6 - ICKFA National Titles

The biggest tournament of the year was held here on the Gold Coast and the day saw lots of exciting karate action. The introduction of a number of additional divisions including the masters (40yrs+) proved a big hit with many competitors entering for the first time.

The action was non stop all day with the final event the Team Kumite QLD vs NSW having everyone on the edge of their seats. At the end of the Team Kumite Mataches the match score was tied and the point score was tied so one more match was drawn out of a hat to decide the winner. This match was drawn at the end of extra time meaning sudden death enchosen (extra time) was needed to decide the winner with NSW taking the victory at the last moment.

The Gold Coast team finished second on the medal tally with 14 Gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze.

Congratulations to Cheyenne Ferguson who won the Junior tournament champion.
