2007 Blue Mountains Cup

As always the Blue Mountains Chito-Ryu Karate put on a fantastic weekend of karate with an open seminar provided by the ICKFA on the Saturday and the Blue Mountains Cup on the Sunday. Gold Coast karateka Anthony Horgan, Tasi Schiffers, Carlos Bellamy, Kathleen Smith and Sensei Adam participated in the seminar with the instruction of the Australian honbucho, Shihan Mike Noonan very much appreciated by all.

The morning of the Blue Mountains Cup got of to a different start with a flat tyre and white gi’s making an interesting combination! Thank you to Lyle for changing the tyre and for his help driving everyone around during the weekend.

The tournament got of to a big start with the junior kata 10th - 7th kyu u/16yrs division containing over 40 competitors. Kathleen Smith did fantastically well making it into the top 10, just missing out on the final round. In the other kata divisions Tasi Schiffers performed an excellent shi ho hai to take first place in the Adult Kata 6th - 4th Kyu (Mixed, 16yrs & over) with Carlos Bellamy coming second. Anthony Horgan placed second in the Adult Kata 3rd –1st Kyu (16yrs & over), and Sensei Adam placed first in the Adult Kata - Black Belt division.

After a fantastic demonstration by Mike Noonan Sensei, Shane Kerr Sensei and Craig Cox Sensei the afternoon kumite sessions commenced. Again the Gold Coast featured prominently with Carlos Bellamy winning the very competitive Jr E 16-17 division. The standard of this division is very high and bodes well for the 2010 Soke Cup! In the female division Tasi Schiffers placed third.

In the Open Kumite division Anthony Horgan continued his good form from Norway taking first place, with Sensei Adam coming second. This is the first time Anthony has won the open kumite division and is a fantastic achievement to achieve this so quickly. The Blue Mountains Cup was awarded to Sensei Adam for his consistent results in the higher divisions.

Once again it was a fantastic tournament with the Gold Coast well represented. Bring on 2008 where there will be even more tournaments to test your skills
