Kangeiko (Special Winter Training)
Return to Events & Calendar
Kangeiko is a "special winter practice" or "cold weather practice". Traditionally Kangeiko involves a retreat and continous training conducted over a number of days at the coldest time of the year. The purpose of Kangeiko is to challenge yourself to overcome obstacles (cold, fatigue etc). The obstacles are overcome by focusing on your training, mediatative techniques and harnessing your Ki.
Gold Coast Chito-Ryu Karate's Kangeiko training is open to all students 13 years and over of any rank, it is a great way to test yourself and discover new aspects of your training.
Kangeiko is conducted at the beautiful Springbrook National Park in the Gold Coast Hinterland. Although there is rarely snow in the hinterland tempertures are frequently below 10° during winter and provide a great test of fortitude.
The day consists of:-
Early morning meditation.
Training session in the park (with the unique sounds of nature around you, this is a very special experience).
4km bush walk circuit (stopping to perform training exercises and meditate at locations high in Ki energy).
Waterfall training (depending on rainfall).
Kangeiko training is also conducted at the Blue Mountains (Wentworth Falls) through the Blue Mountains Chito-Ryu Karate Association.
